The Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP), an independent non-profit organization, was established in 2001. It has done pioneering work in creating a more enabling environment for philanthropy in Pakistan by professionalizing grant making, enhancing the grant recipients' effectiveness by building their capacity, maintaining relationships with grant-makers, raising broad societal understanding of philanthropy and certifying NGOs/Recipients for philanthropic grants.
Based in Islamabad, PCP is a national organization with key decision makers on its Board of Directors including, Chairmen/Presidents of AKU, Shell, Engro, TCF, PICIC, Business Recorder, Sarhad Rural Development Corporation, National Rural Support Program, NJI, LUMS, etc. Other Board Members include the CEO Business Recorder and Dr Attiya Inayatullah, MNA. Dr Shamsh Kassim Lakha is the Chairman of PCP and Ms Shahnaz Wazir Ali is the Executive Director.
As part of its activities, PCP conducts surveys of public listed companies and evaluates their philanthropic contribution. PCP has also initiated, for the first time, the Pakistan Corporate Philanthropy Awards, which were announced in KSE's Annual "Top Companies Award" Ceremony on January 8, 2007 at the Governor House. The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister, Governor Sindh, Chief Minister Sindh, Minister for Industries, Chairman SECP, Chairman and MD KSE, the top management of business organizations and the Stock Exchange. <br> In the year 2004, out of a total of 551 public listed companies, IMC was amongst the top three companies, standing 3rd on the basis of volume of donations. Parvez Ghias, CEO IMC received the award from the Prime Minister, Shaukat Aziz on January 8, 2007. |
