Indus Motor holds Engineering Design Competition - Jun 6, 2008
Indus Motor Company (IMC) organized an Engineering Design Competition for students of Engineering universities, with the aim of promoting automation and robotics in Pakistan.
Engineering universities were invited to participate in the competition and teams from six engineering universities i.e. NED University of Engineering & Technology, G.I.K Institute of Engineering & Technology, University of Engineering & Technology Lahore, University of Engineering & Technology Taxila, N.W.F.P University of Engineering & Technology, and QuaideAwam University of Engineering, Science & Technology participated in the competition. Engineering students were asked to apply their designing skills to a real life manufacturing problem and come up with a solution.
The teams visited Indus Motor’s plant where they studied details of the project and subsequently, prepared design proposals. The proposals were evaluated on various criteria including ergonomics, economics, design integration, functionality, reliability, degree of automation, design compatibility with process, etc. The team of students from UET Lahore, comprising of Noman Ahmed, M Tayyab Hanif and Waqas Saeed won the first prize for the best designed proposal.
At the prize distribution ceremony, Mr Shah M Saad Husain, Director Corporate Planning and Customer Relations, Indus Motor Company congratulated the winning team, and mentioned that as an engineering company, Indus Motor strives to strengthen the relationship between the industry and academic institutions. Saad stated that Indus not only provides internships and training to engineering and other students, it also employs hundreds of professionals, offering them opportunities to enhance their skills, pursue careers, and at the same time, contribute to the engineering industry.
