Toyota organizes Road Safety Walk in Karachi - Apr 29, 2007
The Toyota Road Safety Walk, scheduled as part of the UN Global Road Safety Week (23rd to 29th April), was organized by Indus Motor Company. The Walk, in which over 1500 people participated, including children from different schools, employees from Indus Motor Company, it’s dealerships and vendors and their families. The Walk was followed by a Concert at the Marina Club, aims to raise road safety awareness by educating children and families; all under the company’s CSR banner of ‘Concern Beyond Cars’.

At the occasion, Parvez Ghias, CEO of Indus Motor Company, reiterated the company’s commitment to Road Safety and Accident Prevention, saying, ‘With the increasing vehicle population, it is important to minimize traffic accidents and traffic congestion. This Road Safety Walk highlights our determination to take a comprehensive approach with initiatives such as educating children, drivers and pedestrians, while also undertaking other initiatives in health, environment, etc., under IMC’s CSR banner of ‘Concern Beyond Cars’. As a member of the United Nations Global Compact, we want to make a difference towards having safer roads in Pakistan.

The highly attended Walk comes after the success of the first National Road Safety Conference organized by IMC earlier in the week, in collaboration with the Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) and the Road Injury Research and Prevention Centre (JPMC). This first of its kind conference initiated a wide range of dialogue on road safety issues, with contributions from a number of stakeholders from the industry, NGOs, education, health, engineering, law enforcement, etc. The highlight of the conference was the development of recommendations through various working sessions focusing on the specific roles of the health, corporate, education, enforcement and engineering sectors in improving road safety.

Apart from contributing in many health, education, environment and community development projects, Indus is at the forefront in several Road Safety initiatives. As a member of the United Nations Global Compact, during the UN Global Road Safety Week (April 23 – 29, 2007), the company recently organized the first National Road Safety Conference, bringing together different stakeholders related to Road Safety. This in addition to initiatives like the Road Traffic Injury Research Project (with JPMC, AKUH, NED), Road Safety School Campaign, for 20,000 children, Free Safety Checkup of Vehicles at Toyota authorized dealerships, etc.
