Akio Toyoda, Executive Vice President Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan, inaugurated the most modern and state of the art Toyota Gymnasium at Habib Public School - Nov 10, 2006 Karachi, November 10, 2006: Akio Toyoda, Executive Vice President Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan, inaugurated the most modern and state of the art Toyota Gymnasium at Habib Public School, Karachi during his recent visit to Pakistan. Following the inauguration ceremony, Toyoda was given a tour of the gymnasium, accompanied by Rafiq M. Habib (Chairman House of Habib), Ali S. Habib (Chairman Indus Motor Company) and other officials of Toyota, Indus Motor Company and Habib Public School. “I am delighted to visit Pakistan again and feel honored to launch this sports facility. Toyota Motor Corporation is proud to be associated with the House of Habib in not only making a contribution to Pakistan’s automobile sector but also being part of community service as a good corporate citizen. We want to do something substantial for the young generation of Pakistan as they are the future of the country. Gymnasiums like this are not only a source of physical exercise, but also develop teamwork, physical stamina and mental agility in young people”, said Akio Toyoda, who is also a former national field hockey player of Japan and has played international hockey matches in Pakistan in his youth. The Rs 30 million modern gymnasium is the first of its kind in the country. Ali Habib, (Chairman Indus Motor Company) who is also one of the trustees of Habib Public School shared that the gymnasium is part of a US$ 3 million plan to expand and upgrade Habib School’s facilities and enhance further both the quality of education and extracurricular activities. Habib Public School has excellent academic results, with 90% of its students securing A grades in Matric for the past many years and 100% of its students completing O’Levels successfully. In sports, Habib Public School has retained the Sindh Swimming Championship for the last 13 years and has produced hockey players of international repute including Hasan Sardar, Ahmed Alam, Qamar Ibrahim, Safdar Abbas, Ejaz Khokhar, Adnan Zakir, Asif Ahmed Khan and Shabbir Ahmed Khan. These Habibians also graced the Toyota Gymnasium inauguration ceremony along with other international hockey players including, Iftikhar Syed, Mansoor Ahmed, Qamar Riaz ul Haq, Anwaar Ahmed Khan and Samiullah.
