Fujio Cho, Vice Chairman, Toyota congratulates Indus Motor on 200,000 vehicle sales - Nov 17, 2005
Karachi, Nov 17, 2005: Vice Chairman, Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan, Fujio Cho visited Indus Motor Plant at Bin Qasim and congratulated the Indus Team on achieving sales of 200,000 vehicles in Pakistan, he mentioned that during his visit, he was pleasantly surprised by the large number of cars on the roads and noted that the Pakistani auto market had grown considerably.
While laying the foundation stone of the new Bumper Paint Shop of Indus Motor, Fujio Cho stated that further plant expansion would have to be done, for which Toyota would provide continued support. Indus Motor has been continuously increasing its production capacity to cater to the tremendous demand for its vehicles. Since March 2002, when the new Corolla was launched, production has increased from 57 vehicles a day to 169 vehicles per day. The current expansion program will take Indus capacity further to 192 vehicles per day (50,000 vehicles/year) by April 2006.
Mr Fujio Cho also expressed his grief and heart felt condolences at the loss of lives in the Oct 8 earthquake, stating that Japan has itself experienced many major earthquakes. Toyota understands and shares the sorrow of the people of Pakistan. He presented a cheque for the President’s Earthquake Relief Fund on behalf of the employees of Toyota. He also expressed his thanks and support to volunteers of the Indus Motor team who are conducting a very useful earthquake relief operation in the northern areas, providing emergency food, tents, clothes, and medical treatment by employing 10 Hilux vehicles to reach remote mountain villages.
Earlier, while welcoming Fujio Cho, Rafiq M Habib, Chairman House of Habib praised Fujio Cho’s role and leadership in Toyota’s global success. Ali S Habib, Chairman Indus Motor thanked Fujio Cho for visiting Pakistan and said that Toyota has not only supported Indus Motor since its inception, but has also enabled us to make a significant contribution to the Pakistani economy and society.
